The Skills4Women project is dedicated to empowering unemployed women, with a particular focus on those who are disadvantaged, immigrants, migrants, or refugees. Recognizing the barriers these women face in gaining employment, the project aims to equip them with the necessary skills, knowledge, and confidence to secure jobs in their host countries. This initiative acknowledges the unique challenges encountered by immigrant, migrant, and refugee women who often struggle to navigate the employment sector and adapt to new cultural environments.
Τhe questionnaire created within the framework of the project aims to highlight the basic needs of disadvantaged, immigrants, migrants, or refugees women in host countries.The sample was disadvantaged, immigrants, migrants, or refugees women living in Greece, Ireland, Portugal and Spain with a mean age of 35-44.
Τhe results of the questionnaire showed that most participants face difficulties with the language of speech in the host country. Common obstacles were understanding how things work in a new country, language barriers and social relations, social acceptance, as well as finding good jobs and employment opportunities and housing issues. So they mentioned how important it is to learn about culture, working framework and language.
Regarding the participants’ learning preferences, most of them said that they prefer to learn through a combination of written, visual and interactive materials and to use devices like their smartphones. Also, most of the participants prefer a learning platform that is delivered both, mobile friendly website and website with open access. The most common answers about course’s topics they are interested in are culture, language and link with useful organisations and job centres courses.
